The Threshold

This place I’ve come to many times in my life, the rock is beside the road in Vina Del Mar. It is unyielding to the changes in weather, the current political climates, unyielding to human emotions and projection. After long stretches of time away, I must go to this place first. When I arrive, the portal is always there. Her impervious stature is not rejection. I stand with her, connected, and my feelings take root.

This place embodies a transitional space, a threshold, where space exists independent of time.

My feelings emerge, my wishes become alive, my memories blur and organize, my feet become heavier on the ground. I become part of a living relationship that only can exist here.

I cannot go there now, I cannot hug my mother, I cannot travel to see those I love. These places are suspended only in memory during quarantine. I don’t know when I will be able to return to these places. The rock disappears and returns as the waves crash over.

The Threshold

Este lugar al que he venido muchas veces en mi vida, esta roca está al lado de la carretera en Viña del Mar. Es inflexible a los cambios de clima, a la situación  política actual, inflexible a las emociones y proyección humana. Después de largos períodos de tiempo fuera de la ciudad, primero debo ir a este lugar. Cuando llego, El Umbral siempre está ahí. Su estatura impermeable no es rechazo. Me quedo con ella, conectado, y mis sentimientos se arraigan.

Este lugar encarna un espacio de transición, un umbral, donde el espacio existe independientemente del tiempo.

Mis sentimientos emergen, mis deseos cobran vida, mis recuerdos se difuminan y se organizan, mis pies se vuelven más pesados ​​en el suelo. Me convierto en parte de una relación viva que solo puede existir aquí.

No puedo ir allí ahora, no puedo abrazar a mi madre, no puedo viajar para ver a mis seres queridos. Estos lugares se suspenden solo en la memoria durante la cuarentena. No sé cuándo podré regresar a estos lugares. La roca desaparece y regresa cuando las olas rompen.
